Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher while losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the rose 0.31% to hit a new all time high, while the index climbed 0.33%, and the index declined 0.33%.
The best performers of the session on the were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:), which rose 3.29% or 6.31 points to trade at 198.07 at the close. Meanwhile, Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:) added 2.55% or 5.32 points to end at 213.64 and Chevron Corp (NYSE:) was up 1.54% or 1.52 points to 99.91 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Home Depot Inc (NYSE:), which fell 2.78% or 7.66 points to trade at 268.19 at the close. Salesforce.com Inc (NYSE:) declined 2.05% or 4.94 points to end at 236.01 and Walmart Inc (NYSE:) was down 1.45% or 1.99 points to 135.70.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Cimarex Energy Co (NYSE:) which rose 10.09% to 57.26, Marathon Oil Corporation (NYSE:) which was up 10.00% to settle at 11.22 and Wynn Resorts Limited (NASDAQ:) which gained 7.44% to close at 136.18.
The worst performers were Arconic Corp (NYSE:) which was down 10.18% to 23.11 in late trade, Discovery Inc Class A (NASDAQ:) which lost 7.14% to settle at 51.34 and Discovery Communications C Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 6.74% to 42.90 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Yunhong CTI Ltd (NASDAQ:) which rose 32.49% to 3.140, Solid Biosciences LLC (NASDAQ:) which was up 31.88% to settle at 9.06 and Sunesis Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 23.03% to close at 4.3800.
The worst performers were Workhorse Group Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 42.57% to 18.00 in late trade, The9 Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:) which lost 34.40% to settle at 53.510 and Lion Group Holding Ltd (NASDAQ:) which was down 27.22% to 3.45 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1867 to 1239 and 63 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2305 fell and 924 advanced, while 44 ended unchanged.
Shares in Cimarex Energy Co (NYSE:) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 10.09% or 5.25 to 57.26. Shares in Marathon Oil Corporation (NYSE:) rose to 52-week highs; up 10.00% or 1.02 to 11.22. Shares in Wynn Resorts Limited (NASDAQ:) rose to 52-week highs; up 7.44% or 9.43 to 136.18. Shares in Walt Disney Company (NYSE:) rose to all time highs; gaining 3.29% or 6.31 to 198.07. Shares in Solid Biosciences LLC (NASDAQ:) rose to 52-week highs; rising 31.88% or 2.19 to 9.06.
The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 2.77% to 22.80.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.19% or 3.45 to $1804.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.60% or 0.37 to hit $62.07 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.90% or 0.58 to trade at $64.94 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.07% to 1.2146, while USD/JPY rose 0.22% to 105.29.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 90.142.
