The sons of Reese Witherspoon, Deacon Phillippe, 16, and Ava Phillippe, 20, honored his mother before being awarded the Sherry Lansing Leadership Awards at the Hollywood Reporter Women's Breakfast Gala. The children and their mother posed on the red carpet, with Reese's husband, Jim Toth (the children are from Reese's marriage to Ryan Phillippe) and looked dazzling. Named in honor of former studio director and pioneer Sherry Lansing, the award is given to women who, like their namesake, are forging a new path for women in the industry. Sherry Lansing was the first woman to direct a film studio and the best years of Paramount were under his leadership.
Ava was delighted that her mother had been selected to be this year's recipient and left a sweet congratulatory message to Reese on her official Instagram account. Many in the public have been surprised at how much Ava looks like her Oscar-winning mother, and many say they look more like sisters than mother and daughter.
Ava shared the following message along with his post.
“Congratulations to my mom, who received an award today for her leadership in the industry that cares so much about improving. I am very grateful to have such a thoughtful, passionate and brave mother, and I am glad that other people can recognize how special she is! 💐 "
Reese also shared a message about receiving the Sherry Lansing Award.
“What an inspiring tomorrow! ☀️ Being in a room full of so many passionate and talented women in our business was really an honor and an emotion! I will never forget the speeches of @staceyabrams @ronanfarrow and @oliviawilde that made me want to work EVEN MORE to make our business a more inclusive and representative place. I humiliate all the stories I heard. And I am very excited for the future of the next generation of change makers in this world! Thanks @hollywoodreporter for the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award … it's an incredible honor! 💫 "
