Julia Roberts and Cate Blanchett honored fashion designer Giorgio Armani at the British Fashion Awards, where the designer received the Outstanding Achievement Award: it was an award that took more than four decades to complete. In 1980, Armani was a little known designer, but he won a great prize: he designed Richard Gere's costumes for the film. American Gigalo. His success was born but then he did something revolutionary: he restored the glamor of Hollywood on the red carpet, but he did it with style and comfort.
In the golden age of Hollywood, costume designers made sure that celebrities were dressed perfectly for each event, but as time went by, the role of the studio changed and many celebrities were responsible for dressing. The need for personal stylists became evident and this was not a luxury studio that offered celebrities at the awards. Giorgio Armani found a need and adapted it perfectly.
Armani soon began dressing stars for the red carpet and not only did they look amazing, but they were also comfortable. Word spread and also the prestige and influence of Armani within the industry. Now, Armani is one of the largest fashion houses in the world and its designs often dominate the events of the red carpet.
Julia Roberts is extremely close with Giorgio (who has been dressing her for awards shows for years) and not only gave her the award (along with Cate Blanchett) but they both used Armani designs for the British Fashion Awards.
