This weekend, Kanye West starred in his second opera, Mary, on a floating barge at Miami Marine Stadium on the Key Biscayne pier on the last day of Art Basel. And, the 42-year-old rapper painted silver from head to toe and used a silver monkey / rope hybrid when he took the stage.
According to Page six, West was supposed to debut Mary after his first opera Nebuchadnezzar It premiered in Los Angeles last month, but it was a failure. The West choir performed the first opera in the Hollywood Bowl in collaboration with Vanessa Beecroft, but it was not sold out. And, the audience complained that West was late, as well as the rough acoustics and the fast acting time.

West reportedly arrived an hour late for this performance, and did not take the stage until 4:00 p.m. The show, a second collaboration with Beecroft, included new arrangements for songs from West's pre-gospel catalog, including I can't say anything, I thought about killing you, Devil in a New Dress, Love Lockdown, and Power. And, the opera was all about Christmas history and included traditional songs like Oh holy night, Glory in Excelsis Deo, and Little Drummer.
The Sunday service choir wore matching robes for the performance, but all were also painted silver, as was Kim Kardashian's husband. The rapper read aloud verses from the books of Matthew and Luke in the New Testament that tell the story of Christmas, while the members of his choir recreated different scenes. This was the same format that West used to Nebuchadnezzar, but this time it was part of the performance instead of behind a curtain.
The woman who played the Virgin Mary stood out from the rest of the choir because she wore a bright green robe of marine foam. And, after the one hour performance, everyone left the stage by motorboat.

Several hundred people were present to watch the performance, including some with "Kanye For President, quot; shirts.
Kanye West announced the show just a few hours in advance with a tweet featuring the Bible verse Luke 1: 30-31: “And the angel said to him:‘ Do not fear, Mary: ‘Because you have found God's favor. And behold, you will conceive in his bosom, and give birth to a son, and call his name Jesus. "
"I don't know religious music," said one of the audience members. "But, Kanye is God."
Yeezy is also working on his next album, Jesus is bornWith Dr. Dre, and that is scheduled for Christmas day.
